Published as the frontispiece to Frances Hodgson Burnett's A Little Princess (Charles Scribner's Sons, 1905). A reprint of the book is included in this lot.

As noted by Virginia O'Hara in her essay within the Flights into Fantasy exhibition catalogue, "Betts's illustration for... Burnett's A Little Princess reflects [Howard] Pyle's affinity for decorative line and foreshortened compositions, but the expression of warmth and innocence is her own."
