Description

BETH CAMPBELL GRAPHITE: POTENTIAL FUTURE BASED:Beth Campbell (b. 1971, America), Graphite text-based drawing on archival paper depicting a mind map of potential outcomes which could arise from a single action, titled, “My Potential Future Based on Present Circumstances,” Signed and dated 10/10/00 on face. Float framed, paper: 22”h x 30”w, (55.8cm x 78.74cm), Archivally framed: 38.5”h x 31”w (97.79cm x 78.74cm).

This piece is from the ongoing series begun in 1999 by Campbell, “Potential Future Drawings.” The images are text based and create a flowchart which explore the options, choices and possible outcomes. This specific example begins with the possibility, “Renting Art Studio w/Peter My Boyfriend.”

BIOGRAPHY: Beth Campbell is an American artist known for installations, sculpture and fine art which confront the outcomes of human desires and choices. Her works commingle reality and imagination inviting the viewer to form their own conclusions; in the words of her own biography, “Campbell choreographs spaces, crafts uncanny objects, and maps thought.” Campbell has work in the permanent public collections of Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. She has been the recipient of numerous awards and fellowships as well as invitations to create installations and participate in solo and group shows. Campbell’s commissioned projects include Following Room at the Whitney Museum of Art (2007) and Following Room (Trento) at Manifesta 7, Trento, Italy (2008); Potential Store Fronts for the Public Art Fund, New York (2007). Recent solo exhibitions include Seomi Gallery, South Korea; Country Club, Chicago; The Sculpture Center, Cleveland OH; Country Club Projects at the Buck House, Los Angeles, and Nicole Klagsbrun Gallery, New York. Other museum exhibitions include the Brooklyn Museum of Art, Carnegie Museum of Art, Greater New York, PS1 Contemporary Art Center, White Columns, the Drawing Room, London, and the Tang Museum, Saratoga Springs NY. Her work is included in collections of the Whitney Museum of American Art and the Museum of Modern Art, New York. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Memorial Foundation Fellowship (2011), a Louis Comfort Tiffany Memorial Fellowship (2009); and a Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant (2006). She has been an artist-in-residence at John Michael Kohler Arts Center (2009); the Lower East Side Printshop (2006); and Dieu Donné (2003), among others. Campbell was born in 1971 in Illinois; she lives and works in New York. PROVENANCE: This piece was purchased at PS 101, New York and is from the private archive collection of Smith Earnest Interiors Inc., a 22 year old design firm run by Jeffry Smith and Olen Earnest. The firm specializes in custom interior design for estates, homes and yachts throughout the United States. Their designs have been featured in USA Today, House Beautiful Houses and Plans, Christie’s Great Estates, Florida Architecture, Florida Design, Orlando Magazine, Orlando Home Design and Women’s Day Kitchen and Baths to name but a few. Their designs have taken numerous awards, some of which include the prestigious Best in America Living Award from the NAHB (National Association of Home Builders) for the ‘Best One of a Kind Spec House in the United States’ in 1997, in 2003 won two Aurora Awards for the best $3,000,001 and over One of a Kind Custom Home and also the $2,000,000 to $3,000,000 One of a Kind Custom Home.

BUYER'S PREMIUM
A 23% Buyer's premium will be in affect, in addition to the hammer or purchase price. All bidders will be subject to a 7% Florida State sales tax unless they have a have a valid Florida State Resale Certificate on file with E. M. Wallace Auctions prior to bidding.
