Bacchus and Ariadne, Bacchus in fur-lined red cloak, laurels in his curling dark hair, holding a spear entwined with laurels in his right hand, his left hand outstretched to a bowl held by Ariadne, in white dress and brown cloak, blue ribbons and strand of pearls with ruby-set pendant in her upswept curling fair hair, above her head gold crown set with stars, a fawn holding an urn; seascape with ship and sky background
signed and dated on a paper label fixed to reverse of the ivory: 'Senjor Perigreeni Inven:it an Itailain brought over by my Lord Manchester to Paint ye Dome of St Pauls Catherdrall in year 1709 Bernard Lens Fecit. Sep:br 10 : in ye same year'.
