Born in Sedalia, Michigan, Bernard Goss is a Chicago-area artist who was active during the WPA. He was a member of the important Federal Art Project funded South Side Community Art Center, where fellow alumni included Charles White, George Neal, Eldzier Cortor, Gordon Parks, Archibald Motley and Margaret Burroughs. He married Burroughs in 1939, and they she had a daughter, Gayle. They later divorced.
