The uncompromisingly industrial functionalism of the Gras lamp found early patronage from Le Corbusier, who by the mid-1920s had selected examples of the lamp to compliment his minimalist interior schemes. The lamp swiftly became symbolic of a new machine aesthetic, and was used by Robert Mallet-Stevens, Eileen Gray, Michel Roux-Spitz, Sonja Delaunay, Georges Braque, and others within the artistic avant-garde.
