Item Overview

Description

450. ALBAN BERG (1885 - 1935) Influential Austrian composer and pupil of Arnold Schoenberg who adopted his mentor's atonal style but tempered it with the lyric and dramatic qualities of the Viennese tradition. Superb A.M.Q.S. 1p. 16mo., [n.p.], Sept. [?] 26, 1930, a long measure from Richard Strauss' famed opera Salome (1905), neatly penned on a small card and signed beneath. Attractively set into a peach mat along with an abstract portrait of Berg, and framed in a gilt frame. Salome was inspired by Oscar Wilde's controversial play based on the classical Biblical tale. Fine condition, not examined out of frame. Musical quotes by Berg are quite rare. $2,000-2,500
