BENNETT, Arnold (1867-1931). Autograph manuscript of 'Buried Alive A tale of these days by Arnold Bennett', a novel, n.p., n.d. [1] the title page written in capitals, the text neatly written in Bennett's cursive hand, including emendations of words or phrases on most pages, 211 pages, 4to, tipped into an album, red morocco, by Sangorski and Sutcliffe.

Buried Alive, a romantic fantasy set in London and involving mistaken identities, wills and a court case, was written during Bennett's highly productive autumn and winter of 1, when he also completed The Old Wives Tale, and another short novel. It concludes with the departure of its mysterious painter hero, Priam Farll, for a 'sweet exile' in Algiers with 'the enchantress Alice'. Published in 1908, it was later made into a play (The Great Adventure).
