Bea Orpen HRHA (1913-1980) ESTUARY OF THE RIVER BOYNE watercolour signed lower right 35 by 48cm., 13.7 5 by 18.7 5in. Bea Orpen was niece to the renowned Sir William Orpen RA RI HRHA (1878-1931) and R.C. Orpen RHA (1863-1938). She was predominately a landscape artist, having trained from 1932-35 at the Metropolitan School of Art, Dublin and at the Royal Hibernian Academy Schools and later at the Slade School in London, Orpen won a variety of accolades for her artistic ability throughout her training as well as in her latter years as an established artist. In 1980, two months prior to her death Orpen was elected an honorary member of the RHA. In 1981 the Gorry Gallery, Dublin held a retrospective exhibition of her works.
