Oil on canvas signed at the lower left "L. Braun". Bavarian artillerymen in skirmishes with French cuirassiers in the open fields. In a gold-coloured stucco moulded frame. Slight damage in places signs of age. Size of the painting circa 56 x 100 cm size of the frame circa 68 x 114 cm.
One of Germany's best-known military painters Louis Braun was a professor at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts he drew directly from in situ studies documenting uniforms in his significant works (cf. Thieme-Becker vol. IV p. 549).
