Professor Louis Braun (1836 - 1916) - a Trumpeter of the Royal Bavarian Artillery dated 1870
Oil on canvas signed and dated at the lower left "L. Braun 1870". Trumpeter in full field gear on horseback from the reign of King Ludwig II. In a matching partially gilt moulded frame of later date. Slight damage in places signs of age. Size of the painting circa 66 x 47 cm size of the frame circa 79 x 60 cm.
One of Germany's best-known military painters Louis Braun was a professor at the Munich Academy of Fine Arts he drew directly from in situ studies documenting uniforms in his significant works (cf. Thieme-Becker vol. IV p. 549).
