Description

* Bauerle (Amelia, 1873-1916). And o and o the Daisies Blow, watercolour, signed A.Bowerley, 14.7 x 21.6cm (5.75 x 8.5ins), contained within a contemporary gilded gesso 'arts & crafts' style frame. The title is taken from the sixth verse of John Keats' poem 'Teignmouth' which he wrote whilst staying with his two younger brothers in 1818. Also known as Amelia Bowerley from around 1909, Amalie Mathilde Bauerle was the daughter of the German artist Karl Wilhelm Bauerle (1831-1912) and studied at the South Kensington School of Art and the Slade. She exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1897 until her death and illustrated several books, as well as making contributions to The Yellow Book. (1)
