Description

BARNUM, PHINEAS T. American showman and circus entrepreneur (1810-91); brought Jenny Lind to America, and was responsible for the success of such attractions as Tom Thumb and Jumbo; father of "The Greatest Show on Earth." Autograph Letter Signed "P.T. Barnum," 1 page, 8vo, on imprinted stationery of the Arlington Hotel, Washington, April 7, 1881. He writes "My dear Bowder, Please get one of my books at Waldemere in a wrapper & mail it...to Harry J. Goodwin Esq. / National Republican / Washington...I expect to leave Barnum's Hotel, Baltimore Saturday afternoon - go to...Philadelphia Saturday...till Monday...& then go to Nathan Seeley's...New York." Fold wear, with closed tear at right edge, partial separation at edges, otherwise in very good condition. Matted with a printed photograph of Barnum and contained under glass in a wooden frame, overall size 14.25" x 17.5".
