Babbage (Herbert Ivan, 1873-1916). Boats and figures on the shore, St. Ives, with Carbis Bay beyond, oil on canvas, laid down on board, signed and dated 1906 to lower left, 22.5 x 33cm (9 x 13ins) Herbert Babbage was born in Farnia, South Australia, but settled with his family in Wanganui, New Zealand when he was 5 years old. In 1902 he travelled to Paris to study at the Acadamie Julian. In 1905 he moved to St. Ives where he lived for 4 years, before his return to New Zealand in 1909. (1)
