Oblong folio (17 1/2 x 31 1/4 in.; 445 x 795 mm). 30 chromo-lithographed plates including title, after paintings by Tony Avenarius, mounted on cardstock within frames, plus one leaf "Erklärungen" or key to the plates; edges of cardstock chipped and soiled, some marginal tears. Publisher's red pictorial cloth portfolio with title and historiated initial in gold on upper cover; worn, backstrip mostly gone, soiled.

CATALOGUE NOTE

First edition of this pictorial celebration of the completion of the Cologne Cathedral, used as a reference work by the director Cecil B. DeMille. The illustrations depict costumed triumphal processions at three moments in the history of the cathedral's construction: the laying of the cornerstone in 1248, the completion of the Choir in 1322, and the beginning of the dome in 1842.
