Description

AUTOGRAPHS: OPPER FREDERICK BURR: (1857-1937) American Cartoonist, one of the pioneers of American newspaper cartoon strips, creator of Happy Hooligan. An original black pen and ink sketch drawn and signed by Opper on a small oblong 8vo piece. The artist has penned a pair of head and shoulders sketches of the hobo Happy and another character, adding his signature ('F. Opper') and date, 25th March 1922, in his hand at the base. Neatly annotated in ink in another hand at the head and laid down. Together with an A.L.S., F. B. Opper, one page, 8vo, New Rochelle, New York, 9th November 1922, to N. H. Batchelder. Opper thanks his correspondent for his kind letter and asks him to send a blank application form 'so that I may place the name of my grandson on your list of future pupils.' and asks to be informed of the fee. Opper continues to give further details of his grandson, including his age and current education. G to VG, 2
