Description

Le berceau primitif: Eve et ses deux enfants. Cast plaster sculpture, approx. 23-1/2"H, the surface painted to resemble a mottled terracotta. Eve is shown lovingly watching over her children Cain and Abel. The pedestal faintly depicts the murder of Abel by his brother. Debay made this image in a large format for the 1845 Salon and it became famous at the time. Later plaster cast.

Condition Report

Some soils, chips, inpainting, discoloration and handling wear to the surface.
