Description

This rare, folio engraving with original hand-finished coloring is from Jean-Baptiste Audebert's Histoire naturelle des singes et des makis. The work was published in Paris by Desray between 1797 and 1800. Audebert was the artist and engraver for the work. The work was a study of Old & New World monkeys and lemurs. The high quality engravings depicted the subjects with scientific accuracy but the individual personality of each animal.
