The surface is slightly abraded on the jockeys and in the sky area surrounding them; a few retouches are visible in the sky; the varnish is relatively clean. Under ultraviolet light: very fine strokes of inpainting in the sky, mostly in the central area, and a few fine retouches to the jockeys and the figures in the foreground; further inpainting along the left and right edges.
