The present composition is derived from Joachim Wtewael's original in the Museum, Gouda ('Het Catherine-Gasthuis' inv. no. 55.150, on canvas, 112.5 x 156 cm.). A version in which Anne Lowenthal believes both master and assistant may well have had a hand is in the Museul de Arta al R.S. Romania, Bucharest (on canvas, 112 x 156 cm.); while another copy is in the Musée d'Arras, on canvas, 113 x 154 cm. (see A. Lowenthal, Joachim Wtewael and Dutch Mannerism (Doornspijk, 1986), cat. A-61, p. 132, Pl. 87; B-6, p. 162; C-32, p. 167).
