Notes

The gatehouse at Garlinge, near Margate, is the last surviving element of a medieval manor house, known as Dent de Lion, after the Daundelyon family who lived there. It was built in the 15th century.

A drawing by J.M.W. Turner of Dent de Lion is at the Yale Center for British Art, New Haven, Connecticut.
