ATTRIBUTED TO JOSEPH HEINTZ THE YOUNGER AUGSBURG CIRCA 1600 - 1678 VENICE THE SALA DEL COLLEGIO IN THE DOGE'S PALACE oil on canvas 122 by 173 cm.; 48 by 68 in.

Although Joseph Heintz the Younger painted a number of religious works for churches in and around Venice, his primary importance as an artist in the city was in his depictions of state ceremonies and city festivals. The present lot shows the Sala del Collegio in the doge's palace, and Veronese's fresco of the battle of Lepanto on the end wall.
