ATTRIBUTED TO JOSEPH H. DAVIS (1811-1865) Portrait of Ichabod Dixon, Aged 68 Years ink and watercolor on paper 10º x 7 in. (sight) Ichabod Dixon was born March 25, 1795 in Lebanon, Maine. He lived to be 74, and died on June 2, 1869 in his hometown. For a comparable portrait by Davis, see Sotheby's, New York, 16 January 2003, lot 724. This piece exhibits a similar grainpainted table, rug with oval motif and calligraphy. Both pieces also portray the subject with disproportionately small feet which is characteristic of Davis' work
