After the drawing by Michelangelo at Windsor (inv. 12777; A.E. Popham and J. Wilde, The Italian drawings of the XV and XVI centuries, London, 1949, no. 431, pl. 28). The attribution was proposed by Dr. Paul Joannides in 1996, who pointed out that the watermark is similar to one on a Michelangelo drawing of circa 1550 in the Pierpont Morgan Library.
