Notes

THE PROPERTY OF A LADY (LOTS 1-7)

The costumes of the sitters suggest that they are members of the gentry, rather than nobility. The mother's hat alludes to her rank, and she wears a fichou to cover her neck and suggest piety. Her daughter holds a primrose, a symbol of youth, in her right hand, and a devotional book in her left.

No VAT will be charged on the hammer price, but VAT at 17.5% will be added to the buyer's premium which is invoiced on a VAT inclusive basis.
