Notes

The uniform of the sitter dates this picture to between 1832 and 1846, when the stiffened leather helmet with gilt fittings and a bearskin crest seen in the present painting were replaced with an all metal one with a falling horse hair tail. A second version of this picture is at Anglesey Abbey.
