measurements 50 1/8 by 34 1/2 in. alternate measurements 127.3 by 87.6 cm.

Although very few works by Hayman are recorded before 1740, the present portrait may be an early work by the artist, and probably dates to sometime in the 1730s. We are grateful to Dr. Brian Allen of the Paul Mellon Center for Studies in British Art for suggesting, upon firsthand inspection, the possible attribution to Francis Hayman.
