PROVENANCE: (i) John Watkins Brett, London (1805-1863); Christie's, 8 April 1864, lot 519, 'G. Romano – Figures attacked by a unicorn' (for 2s 6d to Bloxam). M.H. Bloxam, by whom given to Rugby School. (ii) William Mayor (died 1874) (L. 2766), no. 108, as Perino del Vaga. Unidentifed collector's mark, initials 'C.M' (L. 598a). Partial unidentifed mark (not in Lugt). M.H. Bloxam, by whom given to Rugby School; with his inscription 'Rugby School art museum e dono Matt: H: Bloxam' (on the mount).
