Description

Attributed to David Hodgson (circa 1798-1864) The Cottager, oil on panel, 28.5 x 24.5cm. David Hodgson was born in Norwich in 1798 and received drawing lessons from John Crome at the local grammar school. From the age of 15 he exhibited, mostly at the R.I.R.A., Suffolk Street and The Norwich Society. He became the drawing master at his old school and taught many late members of The Norwich School. He painted numerous views for the old city of Norwich and the surrounding countryside. He was much influenced by John Crome and developed a sensitive feel towards old architecture.
