Item Overview

Description

Attributed to Charles Leaver (19th century) A WINTER LANDSCAPE WITH A FIGURE ON A PATH IN THE FOREGROUND, HENS BESIDE A STONE BARN NEARBY] Oil on canvas, {43.5cm by 54.5cm (17in by 21in). See illustration} E700-900 *Provenance. With William D. Jones, 100 Seel Street, Liverpool. Leaver's style is reminiscent of William Thomas Such. He usually painted on a larger scale for prestigious Midlands exhibitions, these he often signed, inscribed and dated. The artist rarely signed the smaller examples. Winter scenes were one of his favourite subjects, but he also produced summer and autumnal scenes. He worked around Stratford-upon-Avon, as well as in Worcestershire.
