Attila Richard Lukacs 1962 - Canadian mixed media on paper Brandenburg Series 53 x 39 inches 134.6 x 99 centimeters Provenance:Private Collection, Vancouver The subject of Lukacs's Brandenburg Series is the collapse of Communism in Germany. In 1989, Berlin's Brandenburg Gate, an historic gate into the city, was located only a short distance from Lukacs's studio and had remained closed since the creation of the Berlin Wall in 1961. When the Gate re-opened after the fall of the Berlin Wall, it symbolized the birth of freedom and a desire to unify the city of Berlin.
