Notes

PROPERTY FROM A PRIVATE COLLECTION, NEW YORK
Arsen Savadov was born in Kiev, and he graduated from the Kiev Art Institute in 1986. Since 1987, he has participated in major exhibitions throughout Europe and in the United States. Critics often describe his paintings as "Neo-Baroque" because his elaborate compositions are reminiscent of seventeenth-century Baroque painting. However, Savadov's compositions are entirely his own--particularly distinguished by the massive scale used to depict the colorful and fantastical world inhabited by his frenzied subjects. The end result is a social commentary that speaks to the loss of order and, to a certain extent, the loss of civilization within contemporary society.
