Inscribed in the plate "Arnoldus Van Westerhout, Antwerp...Sculpsit" l.l.
Etching on paper, plate size 18 5/8 x 39 1/8 in. (47.0 x 99.7 cm), unmatted, unframed.
Condition: Tears, creases, rippling, toning, staining, soiling, sheet with piercing.

N.B. This print depicts the process of reclaiming the Colonna Antonina in Rome, which had been rediscovered in 1703 and was raised from the ground by Francesco Fontana (1668–1708) in 1705.

Full title inscription reads, "Scenographia Machinae qua Clemente XI Pont. Max. An. D. MDCCV Columna cum Stylobata Apotheoseos Imp. T. Aelij Antonini Pij Augusti eruta est e ruderibus Campi Martii"

Sheet size approximately 21 1/2 x 44 inches. Sheet had once been cut or perhaps separated along a deep crease, with the right 1/3 of the image now being joined to the main sheet with an extra strip of paper to the reverse. The image does not perfectly align, the pieced part being about 1/8 inch off of alignment. Tears along crease at left center, measuring from about 3/4 to 1-1/2 in. Other nicks and tears along edges of sheet, largest one l.l. measuring about 2-1/2. and extending into the image and repaired with cellophane tape top the reverse and with a second, 2-inch tear affecting the image u.r.
