Notes

Zina Drummond, née Ogilvie, Drummond's first wife, worked as an artist, and mainly as an illustrator. She married Drummond in 1906 and appears in a number of pictures by her husband, as well as in a drawing by her husband's friend, Walter Richard Sickert. The couple lived for many years in Elm Park Gardens in Chelsea which was the setting for the present work and other piano paintings by the artist, such as The Piano Lesson (Art Gallery of South Australia, Adelaide). Zina died in 1931. We are very grateful to Dr Wendy Baron for her assistance in cataloguing this work.
