The canvas has a firm wax relining that is, on the reverse, covered in a thin plastic film. The paint surface is stable and has an even and clear varnish. There are no major damages to the naked eye and only very few scattered retouchings and strengthenings visible on inspection under ultra violet light. The main concentrations of these retouchings are a small patch in the lower clouds above the Rialto, in the dark tones of the gondola near the canal wall on the right, to the right of the figure in blue, and one small old restored knock on the right margin above the building. None of these are particularly significant and the painting is in fair overall condition.
