Antony Donaldson, Medal for Jim Clark, 1963. Leceistershire County Council
Arts Collection, Leicester. Artwork: © Antony Donaldson.
‘ I remember having a car and taking our two very small sons into
the country to Brands Hatch to see the car races. It was something
magical. At this time cars were painted in their national colours.
English Green, French Blue, German Silver, Belgium Yellow and
Italian Red and the countryside became flled with arrows of colour.
Jim Clark was really the best. He could get into any race car, Saloon,
Sports Racing, Formula Junior, Formula One and just win. This work
on paper is of him in a Lotus 25 and is a study for ‘Medal for Jim
Clark’, 1963 (Leicestershire County Council, UK).’
