He was particularly interested in the manipulation of the linguistic relation between headings and images. The flans (1967-1968) appeared during the reign of a particularly repressive government, and made explicit reference to the political moment of the times. They were created from used news plates recuperated from the major journals in Brazil including O Globo and Journal da Bahia. Many of the flans were censured and confiscated by the police resulting in the destruction of an extensive body of work.
