Anton Goossens, Belgian 1903-1980- Untitled, abstract compositions; recto/verso, oil and texture on industrial board, signed and dated 58: together with two other similar recto/verso untitled abstract studies, both oil on board, each signed and dated 58 and 66 respectively, 123x102cm, each, (3) (recto/verso) Note: Anton Goossens, Belgian, 1903-1980 was a fixture in the eccentric Antwerp art scene of the 1950s and 60s. His work was championed by the young Belgian avant-garde, who included it in their own provocative exhibitions in the late 1950s. From small "three-minute drawings" to large textured paintings on industrial insulation paneling, the works reflected Goossen's fascination with the human face and form as archetypal modernist image. Born 1903- East-Flanders, Belgium 1914-1921- Lived In penance and Plymouth 1921-1925- Lived in the Hague, Netherlands 1925- Arrived in Antwerp 1929-1935 -Attended the Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp 1961-1963- Attended the High School of Fine arts , Antwerp 1961-1974- Received several awards from the Ministry of National Education and Culture 1968-1973- Plantyn and Moretus Museum and Prentenkainet, both the Antwerp public museums, brought several drawings and watercolours as well as purchases made by the Royal Albert Library, Brussels
