An Italianate landscape with bathers before a village and horsemen on a track signed 'Anton Faistenberger' (lower right) oil on canvas 141/4 x 201/2 in. (36.2 x 52 cm.) NOTES From a large family of artists, Anton Faistenberger studied under his father, Wilhelm, between 1680 and 1694, after which he travelled to Italy where he became influenced by the works of Poussin and Salvator Rosa and in Venice worked with Johann Carl Loth. On his return to Germany, he settled in Vienna under the patronage of the Esterhazy family.
