Lot 36: Antoine Dury (b.1819)

The Beater's Rest signed and dated 'T.DURY/1872' (lower left) oil on unlined canvas 28 1/8 x 36 in. (71.4 x 91.4 cm.) NOTES Antoine, called 'Tony', Dury was born in Lyon on 22 March 1819, where he studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts under Claude Bonnard. By 1844 he was in Paris, exhibiting portraits and architectural views. It is not known when he moved to England, although he is known to have settled in Warwick by 1878.
