Notes

Ottomar Anschutz, renowned for his photography of the natural world and his ability to capture the movement of animals in particular, was also an inventor who developed the 1/1000th speed shutter and the electrotachyscope in 1887. His photography of herons influenced Otto Lilienthal's experimental gliders in the 1880s and Thomas Edison is said to have acknowledged a debt to him.
