Anne McKenzie Nickolson (American/Indiana, 20th c.), "What's Out There?", 1992, embroidered, pieced and appliqued cotton, initialed "A.M.N." lower right, 40 in. x 40 in., framed. Note: Anne McKenzie Nickolson studied textile design at Northern Illinois University and Indiana University from where she holds a BFA and MFA respectively. She has been a practicing fiber artist since 1977, creating pieced, appliqu?d, and embroidered artwork that often incorporated hand dyeing and airbrushing. The work offered here represents Nickolson?s distinctive skill at abstracting detailed figures and combining them with geometric shapes to meet her goal of a complex visual experience in which ?the viewer can be surprised by the discovery of shapes, color changes, and multiple ways of seeing.? Nickolson?s art has been exhibited in thirty-two states, twelve countries and five continents and is featured in many prominent public and private collections, including the Indianapolis Museum of Art and Indiana State Museum.
