Description

Anna Coleman Watts Ladd, 1878-1939, bronze bust of Constance Irene Morris daughter of Ira Nelson Morris and Constance Lily Rothschild; and niece of Soloman Guggenheim, signed, green patinated bronze on a square black marble plinth, 22in high overall. Anna Coleman Watts Ladd moved to Boston in 1905 and became one of America's most important sculptors of the early 20th Century. Examples of her work are found in many museums around the world. Her father was appointed by President Wilson in 1914 to be Minister to Sweden a post which he held until 1923. Provenance; The bronze was purchased out of the estate of Gertrude Guggenheim a cousin of the sitter at a house sale in Sussex in the late 1960s by the father of the present vendor.
