Pictured straight on, cropped at the shoulders, and against monochromatic backgrounds, Andrew Mansfield's large scale figures purposefully evoke the qualities of passport photographs. At the same time, the apparent blankness of their expressions cause the viewer to delve deeper into the underlying psychology of the subjects.

Born in Leicester, Mansfield studied at Loughborough College of Art and Portsmouth Polytechnic. Mansfield received the Southern Arts Association Award on four occasions and the Whitechapel Open Award in 1997. He has held solo exhibitions at the Galerie S65, Köln, the Anthony Reynolds Gallery, London and Galerie Anne de Villepoix, Paris.
