The horse laying on its side gnawing at the left hind foot, the cream-colored stone stained black in areas; the mythical beast with long mane and forked tail, drilled on the back for stringing, the gray stone stained black in areas; the
fu dog with large droopy eyes crouching with its ears back, drilled under the chin for stringing, the brown stone mottled in various tones. (3)

The horse gnawing at the left hind foot compares closely to the celadon jade horse in the Brundage Collection, illustrated by Knight, Li and Tse Bartholomew,
Chinese Jades: Ming Dynasty to Early Twentieth Century, From the Asian Art Museum of San Francisco, San Francisco, 2007, p. 92, no. 77, attributed to early 20th century and noted by the author: 'The diagonal tension between the head and the rear leg in this piece, is a later innovation in design.'
