Description

Manuscrit autogr. signé, 16 pp. sur 16 ff. gr. in-4°, encre bleue avec qqs ratures et corrections au crayon bleu. - Article publié le 1/9/1946 dans "Le Thyrse", revue belge d'art et de littérature à laquelle collabora Pol Stiévenart (1877-1960). André Baillon y publia ses premiers textes. L'ouvrage de Marie de Vivier, "La vie tragique d'André Baillon" était paru à Liège en 1946. Stiévenart fut un témoin privilégié de la vie de Baillon, comme en témoignent les 324 lettres et cartes postales adressées par André à son ami Pol et conservées par les AML. Fort d'une relation ininterrompue de 30 années avec son "vieux Trappiste", il livre quelques clefs du caractère tourmenté de Baillon. "Baillon n'a jamais supporté plus de trois ans une situation acquise sans se libérer violemment de son emprise fut-ce par la plus extravagante des cabrioles. La hantise du "saut périlleux" et la manie d'y recourir devant chaque pas difficile, tel m'apparait le thème de sa vie". Il relève par ailleurs une "soif incorrigible de désobéissance. Par son éducation religieuse, soit sous la férule de Melle Autorité, soit dans les "Jésuitières" qui suivirent, il avait vécu dans un tel état de contrainte perpétuelle qu'une obsession de vengeance et de libération à tout prix le poursuivit sa vie entière [...] souvent ses intimes obtinrent de lui ce qu'ils désiraient en lui proposant le contraire".

Auction - Terms of sale

The purchaser shall pay, strictly cash, the hammer price, in €, together with a premium of 25 %, eventually plus the resale tax, if applicable: 4 % for hammer prices from € 2000 on, only for original art and if the author died less than 70 years ago.
The auction follows the order indicated by the catalogue. The biddings start at about 80 % of the lowest estimate and each bid must be +/? 10% higher than the previous one. In case of a dispute the lot will be called again.
The auctioneer has the right to refuse a bid, and this without further explanation.
Each buyer by making a bid acknowledges the conditions of sale and the fact that he has inspected the purchased item.
The auctioneer has the right to split a lot or join several lots.
Lots with two or more titles, series or periodicals, or lots with a mention "n.c." and 'sold w.a.f.'are not collated and cannot be returned.
Each buyer is supposed to buy for his own account and cannot claim any commission. Each bidder should inspect the lots during the exhibition. Under no circumstances can an item, once sold, be returned. For lots bought via a bidding order remarks or complaints, also concerning the authenticity of the items, should be formulated within 2 weeks after the auction. After that delay no item can be returned.
