AN ALFRED-EMMANUEL-LOUIS BEURDELEY FRENCH LOUIS XVI-STYLE BUREAU À CYLINDRE AFTER JEAN-HENRI RIESENER Alfred-Emmanuel-Louis Beurdeley (French, 1808-1882), Paris, France, circa 1880 Marks: A. Beurdeley, A Paris (stamped to underside) 41-1/2 x 43-3/4 x 25-1/2 inches (105.4 x 111.1 x 64.8 cm) The bureau à cylindre with rectangular inlaid parquetry top with pierced three-quarter gallery, above three frieze drawers, the shutter parquetry tambour opening decorated with marquetry garland and trophy in a gilt bronze surround, opening to a fitted interior of four short drawers and two letter trays, with gilt tooled tan leather writing slide, above a knee-hole with a frieze drawer with gilt bronze plaque flanked by two short drawers, and two gilt bronze inset plaques to each side emblematic of the arts, on square and tapering legs terminating in molded rectangular cups. The present lot is based on a bureau à cylindre now in the collection of the Musée du Louvre produced by the Royal Cabinetmaker Jean-Henri Riesener and delivered on December 21, 1784 for Marie Antoinette's apartment in the Palais de Tuileries in Paris.
