Rubicon Gallery, Dublin; Private collection 'The Palm House', Rubicon Gallery, Dublin, 2001 This series of 'Palm House' photographs were based on Stein's residency in the Botanic Gardens, Glasnevin in 2001. They capture the time period prior to restoration work on the building which was carried out two years later. In these images Stein captures the raw and worn fabric of the edifice and its relationship with its subjects, the plants. These works formed the basis of her solo exhibition in the Rubicon Gallery in 2001. The themes of time, degeneration and loss frequently return as dominant subjects in Stein's work. She followed this 'Palm House' exhibition with 'Memory + Loss' in 2002 which explored the lives of her late parents. In 2003 the RHA elected Stein a member of the Academy. She is the first photographer to have achieved this status in Ireland.
