Description

Althea Garstin RUA 1894-1973 BREAKFAST TRAY Oil on board, 11" x 14½" (28 x 30cm). Provenance: Molesworth Gallery, March 2001 (No. 9) Label Verso. Althea Garstin was the daughter of the renowned painter Norman Garstin (1847-1926). The family were originally from Cahirconlish in Co. Limerick, though they were to spend the main part of their life in Newlyn in Cornwall where Norman Garstin became the spokesperson for the famous "Newlyn School". Althea accompanied her father on many of his painting trips to France. She was an extremely good painter in her own right as can be seen from this charming work.
