Amsterdam: Carel Allard, [general title dated 1695, section titles dated:] 1705 3 parts in one volume, 4to (7 1/2 x 6 1/8 in.; 190 x 155 mm). General- and two section-titles printed in red and black, 56 engraved plates on ship construction (of which 3 are folding and 14 double-page), 135 engraved plates of flags (of which 2 are double-page), all plates beautifully colored by a contemporary hand and heightened in liquid gold. Contemporary Dutch marbled calf, spine richly gilt, gilt-stamped title label on spine; joints and extremities rubbed, some corners torn.

An extraordinary, colored copy of the second edition of this highly important work on ship-building, showing the trade in all its facets. The part of the book devoted to the flags of the world is the first extensive flag book.
