ALKEN, Henry. Hunting or Six Hours' Sport. London: Thos. McLean, 1823 [watermarked J. Whatman 1822]. A set of 6 hand-coloured etched plates (282 x 419mm), signed 'Hy. Alken delt.' (Disbound, marginal soiling, marginal tears, the longest 40mm. in plate 1, two corners torn away, sewing marks.) Modern red half morocco box and cover label.

'A RARE SET OF PLATES, well drawn and coloured, representing Cockney Londonders in various difficulties' (Schwerdt). Each plate carries the series title at head and caption at foot, the lively incidents culminating in a head-on collision between the hunters and a herd of pigs. Schwerdt I, p. 16 (calling for a letterpress title not present here); Siltzer p. 71; Tooley 32.
